By: Dhita Karuniawati

2019 was a political year in which Indonesia as a democratic country held general elections for the umpteenth time. In this moment, most Indonesians use their rights as voters to elect their trusted candidates to become leaders of Indonesia in the next 5 years. Elections in Indonesia have been held 12 times, namely in 1955, 1971, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019. And in each year, the mechanism of elections is always refined and adjusted to current development.

In 2019, the general elections held were simultaneous general elections, where the community not only chose the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, but also chose various legislative candidates. It should also be noted that this election is the first simultaneous general election to be held so that it will become a benchmark for holding the next general election.

As a new type of general election, of course it needs a number of evaluations and improvements at some point so that the system owned can be more perfect. Many parties consider that this election process still leaves a number of unresolved issues and problems. That is true, but this problem should be addressed wisely and not cause our trust in the government to decline.

Compared to taking certain actions off track, it is better to justify the system also through existing mechanisms. Thus, existing problems can also be processed in accordance with applicable rules. Keep in mind that voting has been carried out, so that there should be no more attributes imposed. There is only one, that is, we are great Indonesian people.
