Islamabad, Deadly attack to a school in Peshawar, Pakistan, killing at least 145 people last month, leaving a deep sorrow for the country, especially those working in education.
School is supposed to be a safe place for children, it turns out in some regions of Pakistan are no different turbulent other battlefield.
In order to reduce the possibility of similar tragedies, the Pakistani government initiatives to equip and provide combat training for teachers Pakistan, especially in Peshawar.
Officials in Peshawar, the capital of the province of Khyber Pakthunkhwa say, with this training, the teachers are expected to face a terrorist attack during the first 10 minutes while waiting for help.
“Provincial Cabinet decided to give permission to the teachers and school staff to keep their weapons so that in an emergency they could defend themselves during the first 10 minutes while waiting for help to the security forces,” said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani.
The teachers were divided into groups of eight people trained in how to use a variety of handguns and assault rifles legendary Avtomat Kalashnikov or better known as the AK–47.
A total of 35,000 educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been asked to tighten security following a deadly attack on December, 16.
In addition to providing combat training and how to use firearms, Minister Ghani said the government will also build a wall as high as 2.5 meters in schools around the country.
Also, the government will issue a new policy in which civilians with experience operate the weapon will be trained and paid to keep the various educational institutions.
