Many people complained about the PSBB held in Jakarta. Not because of the rules, but because there were parties who allegedly violated the protocol but were not thwarted by the authorities. The public also appreciated President Jokowi’s firm stance, who immediately instructed law enforcement to take firm action against health protocol violators during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is currently still ongoing.
President Joko Widodo asked the Chairman of the Covid-19 task force Doni Monardo, TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tahjanto and National Police Chief General Idham Aziz to take action if any party violates health protocols. According to him, it should not be just an appeal, but it must be enforced and supervised in the field.
Jokowi continued, people’s safety is the highest law. No wonder he really looks forward to the firmness of officials such as General Idham Aziz to reprimand his subordinates, when they are less alert in maintaining health protocols in the field. In a sense, the police are indeed a friend of the people but a warning from the apparatus is an act of compassion, because they want everyone to be free of corona.
President Jokowi’s assertiveness is highly appreciated by the people because to be honest they are already angry with the events in early to mid-November. When there are crowds such as commemorations and weddings attended by tens of thousands of people, officials seem reluctant to disperse. In fact, giving out free masks. I don’t know for what reason.
The organizers admitted that they had paid a progressive fine of 50 million rupiah. But unfortunately he looks jumawa by showing off his ability to spend that much money. Moreover, there are no words of forgiveness that can come out of the mouth. Even though he had committed a fatal violation by not maintaining human distance at the event.
In the aftermath of this incident, the head of the RT was threatened with imprisonment or a fine, because he ignored the crowd in his neighborhood. Not only local officials, high-ranking officials like the governor can also be convicted for clearly allowing physical distancing violations in their area. This proves that the punishment is not selective, whoever is wrong must be fined.
Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Patria also emphasized the violation of health protocols, especially when there are crowds. According to him, the sanctions are progressive. If the offender violates again, his value will be doubled and he will have to pay a fine of 100 million rupiah. The Provincial Government has appealed, requested, and attended crowded events but it is still being done.
President Jokowi’s assertiveness in taking action against protocol violators has been highly praised by the people. Because the rules must be enforced. Don’t let anyone say that the Jakarta PSBB is only on paper but the execution is nil. Because there is a crowd event that is not acted upon, and there is only a diversion of the flow around the place.
Don’t give the impression that the provincial government is protecting a certain figure because he is the leader of a mass organization. Meanwhile, ordinary people who organize crowded events can be directly attacked by the authorities and the Covid-19 task force team and have to pay the highest fine, which is 50 million rupiah.
The central government, which has higher powers than the regional government, is certainly allowed to take action against an official if he is negligent and allows violations of health protocols in his area. This assertion should not be seen as political revenge, but as a form of adhering to health protocols. Because an official must set a good example for the people.
The PSBB in Jakarta is not just a word of mouth, but must be obeyed by the residents there. President Jokowi has made it clear to all high-ranking Police, TNI and task force heads to act immediately if there is a crowd. Don’t hesitate to dismiss them as they clearly violate health protocol.
