Beware Of The Khilafah Propaganda In Indonesia

By: Edi Jatmiko) *

Organizations that embrace khilafah like Hizb ut-Tahrir (HT) have indeed been disbanded, but ideological propaganda echoed by Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia is still often seen on social media, even in some mass actions, HTI flags are still flying everywhere.

The supporters of the Khilafah are still continuing to spread propaganda inviting Muslims in Indonesia to join their struggle. Simultaneously, they also tried to corner the government with a variety of baseless accusations.

Khilafah is a system of government whose territory is not limited to one country, but many countries in the world, which are under one leadership with the legal basis is Islamic law.

Preachers who still hold HTI principles often spread the idea of the Khilafah by playing the logic of the readers’ thinking.

One of uztadz khilafah’s posts is that of Ust Felix Siauw on “The majority of Minority flavors” in his post that he made irrational comparisons about Muslims and other religious communities. He wanted to illustrate that Muslims in Indonesia, despite being the majority, are often adopted by the government.

This propaganda technique is often used by preachers such as Felix Siauw and his supporters, the technique is known as the cherry picking method, which is a play of arguments that emphasizes individual cases or data which he considers can confirm a position.

At the same time, he also ignored a significant part of the case or related data that was at odds with that position.

In short, he only took the data that was suitable for his interests by ignoring the whole data. Therefore, often the conclusions drawn contain logical errors.

This was processed and played by the propaganda of the Khilafah to mislead the minds of its readers to support their struggle to establish the Khilafah in Indonesia.

In addition, his followers also began to dare to take a stand to antagonize the government and the people who were considered to disagree.

The main people who often access social media must also be careful if they find provocative articles from the spreaders of the ideology of the Khilafah. So that we all are not easily carried away by the logic of short thinking.

Tabayyun’s attitude or verification is certainly needed to confirm every information we receive. All that so that we are not easily divided because of an issue that contains religious sentiment.

The Khilafah itself becomes very problematic in Indonesia because it seeks to impose the will of all people to establish a state on the basis of a particular religion, namely Islam.

Padalah, Indonesian society consists of various kinds of diverse religions and ethnicities. The coercion of the will is not in line with the spirit of the nation’s ideology which nurtures all identities in Indonesia.

With the condition of such a society, it would be better if each element of the nation could accept the existence of differences in identity and spread an attitude of mutual tolerance towards others. That will certainly be a significant force for the nation and state of Indonesia.

We all must also understand that the Khilafah cannot develop in Indonesia because it is opposed to the Indonesian government system that has been mutually agreed upon since Independence in 1945.

If propaganda about the caliphate is forced, then that will potentially lead to collisions that could lead to civil war.

Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said that understanding Islam in Indonesia was included in a perfect understanding or kafah, according to space and time. Because, Indonesia consists of various religions and ethnic groups so that the Islamic Sharia system or khilafah cannot be applied.

Indonesia as a state was formed on the basis of mitsaq or agreement. Each party, both Muslims and other parties, agreed to make the Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution the foundation of the state.

The concept of khilafah itself is still considered too utopian and less adaptive to changing times. Of course if you want to revive the glory of the past you still have to adjust to current conditions, that’s the nature of change. So, the application of the concept of khilafah is not right or wrong, but it is relevant or not with the condition of the Islamic state in the world, especially Indonesia.

The ideology of the Khilafah is a movement that can threaten the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia, if this happens it is clear the government has the right to prohibit it.
