Overall, the simultaneous execution of regional head elections has been carried out smoothly and peacefully. However, in the 2015 regional head election there are a number of issues such as delays in local elections in five regions. In Pilkada 2015, the challenges of conducting regional head elections simultaneously, one of which is the weather factor. Therefore, the KPU should prepare and organize the election of regional heads before and during the rainy season. Pilkada 2017 was implemented with better regulation, after Law No. 8/2015 was revised to Law No. 10/2016.
The new regulation contains, among others, reinforces the provisions of the nomination, so that the election stage of the head of the region will not be postponed due to the candidate’s status suit. Similarly, the regulation on the double stewardship of the candidate party politicians should be improved to minimize the possibility of disputes. Thus, the various issues that arose in the elections of 2015, which resulted in delays in regional elections, but in 2017, it does not happen again.
Due to the successful elections of 2017 regional heads simultaneously, for the election of 2018 regional heads will surely be expected to run even better.
