Election Effects, Kadin Maintain Economic Momentum

After the 2019 Election on April 17 yesterday, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) prepared to maintain economic momentum through strengthening the rupiah to increase the number of incoming investments. On the other hand, the business world also continues to strive to challenge the challenges of technological development 4.0.

Kadin General Chairman Rosan Roeslani said that anyone who is elected later as president and vice president of Indonesia must continue to commit and strive to maintain political stability, finance, legal certainty, and economic growth. This is in line with the rapid development of the digital world and high productivity demands.

Rosan said that the challenges ahead, productivity must be increased. Because now the fast-paced era demands worker productivity, so it’s not an age of cheap labor anymore.

For this reason, increasing the capacity of human resources (HR) is very important to pursue economic development. Rosan said that the issue of the massive foreign workforce in Indonesia was nothing to worry about. At present, he said, the number of foreign workers is 98 thousand or 0.03 percent. This amount is far less than the total Indonesian workforce.

While the number of foreign workers from China, said Rosan, only amounted to 30 thousand people. This amount is far less compared to Chinese TKA in a number of countries that are members of ASEAN. According to him, with this reality the issue of TKA invasion did not need to worry about excess and it was better to focus the mind on increasing human resources after the 2019 Election was carried out.

He explained, when compared to workers in the Southeast Asian region, Indonesia’s labor productivity is still relatively low. With the development of 4.0 technology based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), some people predict a number of fields of work will be lost. But it does not rule out the possibility, said Rosan, a new type of work will be created.

He said, especially now that our currency is strengthening, there are investors from incoming portfolios. So momentum must be maintained.

Former Kadin chairman Aburizal Bakrie said Indonesia’s economic growth and development was relatively better than other developing countries. Nevertheless, so far there are still many that need to be improved in order to accelerate the progress of the national economy.

He said, insofar as we continue to be reactive and willing to work hard and unite, believing that when we celebrate a century of proclamation in 2045, Indonesia can become a developed country.

For this reason, the business actors and all elements will continue to maintain the momentum achieved by Indonesia. In the 21st century, who can master the knowledge will emerge as winners in the increasingly fierce global economic competition. That is why, increasing the capacity of workers must be adjusted to the times. Business style has changed, so the workforce needs to be equipped with scientific skills to move the role of AI.
