Bali – Indonesia is hosting the first Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum Summit, which will be held in Bali 11 October 2023. As the initiator, Indonesia has proven successful in uniting the world’s island countries in one forum to find solutions to various global problems and challenges.
President Joko Widodo has signed Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 20 of 2023 concerning the National Committee for Organizing the 2023 Island and Archipelago State Forum High Level Conference (KTT) or the Archipelagic and Island State Forum Summit (2023 AIS Forum Summit).
The person responsible for the substance appointed by President Jokowi is the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
Coordinating Minister Luhut is tasked with preparing and implementing the substance of the event. Apart from that, preparing budgets, work plans, reporting on areas of activity and evaluation.
Previously, Senior Advisor for Climate Governance of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Indonesia Abdul Wahid Situmorang said that for island and archipelagic countries, the sea is the backbone of the economy
“Where solutions are needed that can be used for the country itself and other developing countries,” said Abdul Wahid.
Meanwhile, the Director General (Dirjen) of Information and Public Communication (IKP) of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Usman Kansong, explained that Indonesia is trusted to organize some of the largest international forums in the world.
“This shows the world’s confidence in Indonesia’s leadership, including the 2023 AIS Forum Summit,” he said.
With this forum, continued Usman, it is hoped that heads of island and archipelagic states will attend the AIS Forum Summit.

Assistant Deputy for Delimitation of Maritime Zones and Border Areas at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sora Lokita, said that Indonesia is creating a global movement where solutions to the problems of island and archipelagic countries can be mobilized from all corners of the world.
“The hope is that this movement will become more massive and ultimately island and archipelagic countries can face challenges together,” said Sora Lokita.
