Government Optimizes IKN Development Supervision

The development of the National Capital City (IKN) in Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan is not a joke. The government continues to optimize supervision in order to realize the State Capital which will later be named the Archipelago.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo also admitted that he would come every three months to the IKN Nusantara location in North Penajam Paser to check the progress of the IKN Nusantara development. Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said that the arrival of President Jokowi is expected to further encourage the community to support the development of the Nusantara IKN.

With the existing developments, Basuki is optimistic that in 2024 IKN Nusantara has formed the main building of his palace. Moreover, the cost of fixing DKI Jakarta is more expensive than the cost of building IKN Nusantara in East Kalimantan. The reason is, DKI Jakarta is experiencing land subsidence so that water on the plains of Jakarta cannot flow into the sea if there is no improvement.

Basuki said that his party at the Ministry of Public Works is aware that Jakarta’s carrying capacity is no longer possible to develop. 13 rivers based on data and models made, 15-20 years, maybe 15 years from 2015, it won’t be able to flow by gravity into the sea unless we build high embankments.

This is of course a driving factor for the government to move the capital city to Kalimantan. IKN development has also received a lot of support from various parties, including investors and tenders who are ready to be involved in IKN development.

PT Hutama Karya (Persero), for example, stated its readiness to work on toll roads in the Indonesian capital if the government opened up opportunities for cooperation in the construction process. EVP Corporate Secretary Hutama Karya Tjahjo Purnomo said his party strongly supports development and is interested in participating in the IKN development project in East Kalimantan. Tjahjo said the relocation project and its construction could proceed well according to the targeted plan.

Tjahjo added that his party had prepared to participate in the project auction process at IKN and would try optimally in accordance with the company’s utilization, capacity and capability.

On a different occasion, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko explicitly said that the construction and relocation of IKN was no longer a priority project but a super-priority project. He said, extra ordinary work is needed, which requires careful preparation, strict supervision, and collaboration between ministries/agencies and agencies.

On the occasion of the coordination report on the monitoring of infrastructure development and IKN communication strategies in Jakarta, Moeldoko said that this is a complicated job and takes a very long time, 5-20 years. It requires detailed and ongoing supervision.

For information, the coordination meeting for monitoring infrastructure development and the IKN communication strategy is the first step for the Presidential Staff Office with ministries/agencies and the IKN Authority Agency, to ensure the escort of phase one IKN development.

Moeldoko also said that the Presidential Staff Office team through Deputy I had carried out monitoring and evaluation, as well as coordination with relevant ministries/agencies, to accelerate the development of phase one IKN.

As a result, in the near future, infrastructure development will be carried out. Starting from the construction of new roads and road preservation including access to IKN areas, construction of intake lines or raw water reservoirs, drainage channels and flood control, construction of government office facilities and their supporters, especially the State Palace, Kemenko and Ministry offices, to the construction of the national axis.

In addition, supervision is also carried out by the Chief of Naval Staff (KSAL) Admiral Yudo Margono who inspects the land that will be used as the Naval Headquarters (Mabesal) at IKN.

KSAL said, according to President Jokowi’s direction, the TNI must be upright with government policies. Thus, the TNI is ready to become a bulwark of defense and security to support the development of IKN Nusantara.

Yudo explained that the Navy also plans to build two Kodamar in the western and eastern regions of IKN Nusantara. Kodamar will be built in Pontianak and in the east, namely Tarakan and Balikpapan. He explained that a strong defense was needed because this was the task of the Navy in the Joint Operations of the TNI. One of them is coastal defense.

We need to know that on July 15, 2022 the IKN Nusantara construction contract will be signed with the contractors. The first work carried out at IKN will be processed in such a way that it can be developed to build a new area.

In August, there will be construction of housing for workers at IKN. There will be approximately 200,000 construction workers at IKN. IKN development will then be continued with the construction of access roads, both national roads and toll roads. One of them will be the improvement of the national road from the Balang Island Bridge to the IKN area.

IKN is a grand design that must be monitored optimally. Of course, IKN development must get support from many parties for the acceleration of the IKN transfer project from Jakarta to East Kalimantan.
