Indonesia, Malaysia to Discuss Border Issues After Eid

Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia Zahrain Mohamed Hashim said that talks on border issues with Indonesia will be held in the near future. Both countries have appointed a special envoy to discuss border related issues.

“It is possible that a discussion will be held after Eid al-Fitr,” Zahrain said in a closed meeting at the Malaysian Embassy on Wednesday, July 8, 2015.

The Malaysian government appointed former Secretary General to the Foreign Ministry Tan Sri Mohammad Radzi Abdul Rahman as its representative while President Joko Widodo appointed former Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Eddy Pratomo.

Zahrain said that the Malaysian representative has been appointed since President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono administration. However, the negotiation was not conducted because Indonesia is yet to appoint its representative.

Zahrain explained that the Indonesia-Malaysia relationship will continue to run well despite the border issues.
