Indonesia Pledges to Eradicate Child Labor by 2022

Workforce Minister Hanif Dhakiri has setup a target to eradicate child worker in Indonesia by 2022. The ministry has setup a roadmap to ensure the target.

“The roadmap includes strategy and roles of each institutions to realize the vision of zero child worker by 2022,” said Hanif.

He added that the government, together with the International Labor Organization and some other ministries and institutions, are set to help put an end to child worker.

The roadmap includes regulation harmony, providing education and training, worker union, social protection, and policy.

BPS Statistics in 2009 shows that 4.05 million of 5-17 years old are working. Among the numbers, 1.76 million are categorized as child worker. Moreover, 20.7 percent of the child workers are in prostitution, drug dealing, mining, deep water fishery, and other household sectors.
