Indonesian citizen lives with various religions and tribes, those diversity be accompanied high tolerant. In another side of that tolerant, Indonesia citizen does not receive the taboo culture such as LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender). Due to that issue The Indonesian government requested that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to stop the flow of funds for activities of LGBT.
Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla revealed that the National Development Planning Agency of Indonesia (Bappenas) has called UNDP representative in Jakarta to clarify the news of the flow of funds to Indonesia.
“UNDP in Indonesia has been summoned to Bappenas to explain what happened. UNDP representative claimed did not know and did not follow the project of the UNDP in Thailand. Therefore, it requested the organization to notify to Thailand in order do not implement it, “said the Vice President Kalla.
Earlier it was reported UNDP in collaboration with the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) spent $ 8 million dollars to support the various activities undertaken LGBT.
In a statement, the UNDP said that the project was started in December 2014 to September 2017.
Some objectives of the establishment of the project is to support LGBT people in knowing their rights, including legal rights in the reporting of human rights violations suffered by them.
Results to be achieved from the project one of which is to improve the ability of LGBT non-profit organizations to mobilize, support and contribute through dialogue, policy and community empowerment activities.
