President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo met top leaders of Al-Azhar Institution Cairo Egypt at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. Present at the meeting were the Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Vice Minister of Religious Affairs AM Fachir, and President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East Region Alwi Shihab. The meeting was warm and talk about strengthening both country relation especially education, culture and missionary endeavor of religion.
In a historical visit to Indonesia, a figure that has served as rector of the University of Al Azhar from the 2003-2010, accompanied by a special delegation from Al Azhar, consist of professor Mahmud Hamdi Zaqzuq, former Egyptian minister of endowments, Advisory Board Member of Al Azhar Sheikh Muhammad Abd as-Salam, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Theology professor Al Azhar Abd al-Fattah al-Awari, and Secretary General of the Assembly Hukama al-Muslimin professor Dr Ali an-Nuami..
The delegation which arrived by special plane and landed at Halim Perdanakusama Airport which was greeted by the Minister of Religion, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Chairman of Al Azhar Indonesia Alumni Association (IAAI), Professor Quraish Shihab, and a number of ambassadors.
Secretary General of the Alumni Association of Al Azhar Indonesia (IAAI), Muchlis M Hanafi said that this visit is very important in order to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, especially in the fields of education, culture and missionary endeavor of religion.
