Investigate Controversial Law Violations of Religious Leaders

By: Muhammad Yasin)*

The community supports Apkam to thoroughly investigate the legal violations of the controversial religious leader, Bahar bin Smith. This process needs to be done to create a deterrent effect while preventing others from doing the same.

The controversial religious leader, Bahar bin Smith, is getting worse. Instead of repenting after being released from prison, his mouth became even sharper. This time he has crossed the line and must be prosecuted for being caught insulting the head of state. His actions must be prevented so that the community does not get burned at his provocation.

A person who claims to be a preacher should bring peace with what he says, but unfortunately now many are pretending and even destroying the unity of Indonesia. One of them is Bahar bin Smith, who is increasingly unsettling because he is always sarcastic and negative. Even though he has been involved in a case and ended up in prison, but it gets even more violent on stage.

Members of the radical group were caught insulting the head of state with harsh terms and even challenging the audience to take negative actions. He also mocked the people who were supporters of RI-1 in the 2019 general election. Also a series of other dirty words that make someone stroke his chest while apologizing to God because his ears have been poisoned by the words of someone who claims to be a preacher.

His actions were certainly wrong and he was reported for hate speech that offended SARA. He was involved in Article 28 paragraph 2 of the ITE Law and Articles 14 and 15 of Law No. 1 of 1946 concerning the regulation of criminal law. The penalty is 6 years in prison and/or a fine of 1 billion rupiah.

West Java Police Chief Inspector General Suntana stated that West Java Police investigators had stepped up the legal process that ensnared Bahar bin Smith into an investigation. A Notice of Investigation Commencement (SPDP) has also been sent to his house.

Surprisingly Bahar bin Smith didn’t feel guilty at all, really against the wall. Does this controversial speaker have no shame so he looks normal, even though the threat of punishment is quite large. His arrogance can bring him into the abyss of misery because it seems as if he has never given up on provoking the public.

In addition, he had also experienced the cold of the prison walls due to violence, but did not give up at all. In fact, when he came out of prison, his mouth grew harsher. Whereas as a lecturer he should be able to choose good words but instead invites the audience to hate the head of state.

The community supports the investigation of Bahar bin Smith’s lawlessness so that he can be arrested and jailed again as soon as possible. The reason, the provocation is certainly terrible. Imagine if someone was moved and then joined in blaspheming, what would this nation be like? When the people even insult each other and can’t keep their own words.

Provocateurs like Bahar bin Smith must be severely punished so that they no longer create chaos in Indonesia. In addition to denying that he had committed an insult, he also demanded that the person who had reported it to the security forces. It seems that he should also be examined by a psychiatrist because it could be mentally disturbed because he does not feel guilty for his evil deeds.

Insults and unpleasant actions can indeed get someone involved in a case, especially if the person being blasphemed is the head of state. Bahar bin Smith had become too arrogant and thought he was above the law, and by hiring a high-priced lawyer would save him from jail. Even though the law in Indonesia has been enforced fairly and he will surely get his reward.

The community fully supports Bahar bin Smith’s arrest and investigation of the blasphemy case. He must be arrested as soon as possible so as not to further annoy civilians, because his lectures are always provocative and divide the nation’s unity. He should be ashamed of having followers but failing to set a good example.
