The Papuan adat council said that so far the government and officials had used discriminatory methods in their duties towards their citizens.
He also hopes that President Jokowi will take the right steps to overcome the problem. The government should open itself to dialogue with the people of Papua.
Meanwhile Jayawijaya Deputy Regent Marhin Yogobi said that law enforcement officials must arrest and process racism utterances so that similar incidents do not recur.
He also said that racism and persecution should not exist in Indonesia, which consists of various tribes and races.
Lenis Kogoya, who is the President’s special staff for Papua, conveyed President Jokowi’s message that problems that occurred involving Papuan students with a number of mass organizations in Surabaya, could be resolved properly by forgiving one another.
Lenis, who is also the head of the Papuan Indigenous Peoples, stressed that the problems that led to mass action in Papua and West Papua were expected to no longer be exaggerated, especially by those who wanted this problem not to be resolved soon.
He also invited all parties to speak up and think about Papuan development strategies that would affect the people of Papua.
Therefore, President Jokowi said that he would invite leaders from Papua, ranging from traditional leaders, communities, to religious leaders from Papua and West Papua to the Palace next week.
The former Surakarta Mayor said he wanted to talk about the problem of accelerating welfare in the Land of Papua.
He also claimed to follow the development of the situation in Papua. In addition, the President who was re-elected at the 2019 Presidential Election also stated that the situation in a number of areas of Papua and West Papua was normal again.
According to him, National Police Chief General (Pol) Tito Karnavan, TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto have also visited Papua.
He also said that the apology had been done, it certainly shows the magnanimity of our hearts together to respect and respect each other as fellow countrymen and fellow citizens.
On the other hand, Joko Widodo has also given a mandate to National Police Chief Tito Karnavian to take legal action against racial and ethnic discrimination by community groups.
Meanwhile, demonstrations in Papua that affected the road blockade and burning of the DPRD building also demanded that President Joko Widodo come directly to Papua and apologize for alleged speech and acts of racism against Papuan students residing in Surabaya.
Participants in the mass action also demanded President Jokowi to directly clarify the incident that occurred in Surabaya, even though East Java officials had apologized.
Responding to this, it turns out that President Joko Widodo is rumored to be returning to visit the Province of Papua in the near future.
This was also agreed by Lenis Kogoya who said that the planned visit was related to the alleged persecution and racism against Papuan students which led to riots in Manokwari, West Papua.
Lenis said that during his trip to Papua, President Jokowi would collect the aspirations and input from the people of Papua and West Papua.
These aspirations are not only related to racism and the alleged persecution of Papuan students in Surabaya and the riots in Manokwari. Jokowi will also listen to the aspirations of the Papuan people in relation to the governance period 2019-2024.
We should be grateful to have President Jokowi who is always quick to think and act to overcome problems so as not to spread to other regions.
For this reason, it is not true that President Jokowi is indecisive, moreover impressed by disregarding development in Papua.
