Jakarta, CIDISS – Recently the Indonesian government even international community focused attention to the media coverage related to the inauguration of the office of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) or Papuan Liberation Movement by the Free Papua Organization (OPM) on February 15, 2016 in Wamena, Kab. Jaya Wijaya, Papua. Even the chairman of the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) Victor Yeimo claim ULMWP not just set up an office in Wamena, Kab. Jayawijaya, but also will establish a representative office in the capital of Papua, Jayapura. Even He also claims the whole stiff resistance movement in Papua is now under the auspices of ULMWP that total already has three offices, which is in Wamena, Vanuatu as its center, and the Solomon Islands.
This indicates that the OPM continues to make efforts to separate themself from Indonesia. Efforts separation of Papua has been done in the form of resistance domestically through the military wing of the OPM began to collaborate with other strategies such as commit acts of non-violence through demonstrations by students to voice Papuan independence, to make efforts in the political and internationalization issues Papua such as human rights issues (rights).
ULMWP or Papuan Liberation Movement can be used by movement groups to get the attention of the international community to mobilize support from the international community through diplomacy and propaganda efforts in the cyberspace. It is very possible because of the resistance domestically through the military wing of the OPM can be handled by Indonesian security forces. So with these conditions, it is only natural in the Papuan separatist group shifted its strategy to break away from Indonesia through international support.
It is quite possible carried out by separatist groups in Papua are by propagating issues related to human rights issues in Papua in the hope the international community can intervene in Indonesia on the issue. Where in international law known as the doctrine or principle of “humanitarian intervention”, which is their “interference” or involvement of other countries to the problems of violence in the sovereign territory of a particular country so that it can be solved the problems of humanity. The presence of this principle was the one to be used as ammunition to the separatists in Papua through propaganda by raising human rights issues in Papua to get support from the international community for the purpose and interests of their group to break away from Indonesia.
These efforts are the one who needs to be watched by the government and the entire people of Indonesia, especially Papua. As a sovereign state, then any form of separatism who want to separate from the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) should be eradicated. Therefore we need decisive action from the government to handle. Do not let separatism is rampant and continues to undermine the country. For Indonesia, the country is a fixed price, so no matter how small seeds of separatism should be suppressed and eradicated until the roots. [IS]
