Minister of Industry urges the Spirit of Millennial Generation to become the Mover of Digital Economy

Millennials are believed to play an important role as a driver for the development of the digital economy.

For this reason, next year, the government will increasingly implement various programs in an effort to develop the quality of human resources that can meet the needs of the current labor market. Moreover, Indonesia is enjoying a demographic bonus period or domination of productive age population for the next 15 years.

He explained, based on the experience of other countries such as Japan, China, Singapore and Thailand, when they are in the demographic bonus period, economic growth is high. Well, this is what can become an opportunity for Indonesia with the potential of the current workforce.

Therefore, the government has launched a map of Making Indonesia 4.0 as a readiness to enter the era of industrial revolution 4.0. Through several strategic steps, it is believed to be able to seize opportunities from the effects of the digital economy.

He added, if development without a digital economy, growth is only 5 percent. For Indonesia, want to increase with the addition of jobs or job creation.

In Making Indonesia 4.0’s big aspiration is to make Indonesia the top 10 countries that have the strongest economy in the world by 2030.

Airlangga said, with the industrial revolution 4.0, the increase in real GDP could grow by 1-2 percent, additions to 10 million jobs, and manufacturing contributions to GDP by 25 percent until 2030.

Minister of Industry explained, millennial generation needs to learn the basis of education needed in the digital economic era, such as coding, statistics and English.

Airlangga replied, in Making Indonesia 4.0, there were 10 national priorities set. The ten steps of national priorities, namely the improvement of the flow of material flow, redesigning the industrial zone, accommodating sustainability standards, empowering MSMEs, and building national digital infrastructure. In addition, attracting foreign investment, improving the quality of human resources, establishing an innovation ecosystem, implementing technological investment incentives, and harmonizing rules and policies.The key to implement industry 4.0, one of which is the availability of competent human resources (HR).
