The rejection of Radicalism came from various parties, including the campus environment such as Muhammadiyah Kupang University, East Nusa Tenggara.
The university stated that it rejected radicalism by acting decisively against its students when participating in radical groups and ISIS networks in NTT.
Saturday, Chancellor Muhammadya Kupang Dr. Zainur Wula in Kupang, said that his party explicitly rejected the entry of radical groups within the Muhammadiyah campus. Until now there have been no students participating in radicalism or HTI and ISIS networks.
He said that when giving material in a national seminar on “The Role of Youth Against the Practice of Intolerance of the Radicalism and Terrorism Movement in NTT” the Indonesian Christian Student Movement (GMKI) of NTT held at the Kupang City Award Church.
He said that Muhammadiyah University students always put forward a spirit of tolerance so it was not surprising that 80 percent of students in higher education institutions were Christians.
He said, tolerance is very closely related to the harmonization of relations between religious communities, so that if there is an understanding of intolerance and leads to radicalism and terrorism it cannot be justified to enter the Muhammadiyah University. Islam also does not justify intolerance, radicalism and developing terrorism.
East Nusa Tenggara, he said, is a shared house so that all components of society play an active role in maintaining the security of the area, by preventing behavior and attitudes that lead to radicalism, terrorism and intolerance.
Zainur said youth in NTT Province as agents of change have a strategic role in building national life, including in counteracting radicalism. According to him, efforts to overcome the notion of radicalism, intolerance and terrorism are carried out through increasing religious understanding of the younger generation by involving religious leaders.
Muhammadiyah University, he said, was committed to rejecting the entry of radicalism and intolerance in the campus environment. As the Chancellor at Muhammadiyah, he firmly rejected the entry of radical groups as well as intolerance. And if it is found that there are students participating in the geras line group it will be dealt with firmly and will not forgive students participating in radical groups because it clearly contradicts the spirit of our higher education institutions.
The attitude of the Chancellor of the Muhammadiyah University should be supported by trying to oversee the radicalism movement on his campus. But we all believe, the party that most needs to actively prevent the development of radicalism is the students themselves. It is hoped that the program for handling radicalism on campus involves various student organizations such as the Student Executive Board (BEM), Student Association, Student Community and also student religious organizations.
