MUI Urges People to Respect Religious Tolerance

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Tengku Zulkarnaen, has yet to deliver a statement concerning the incineration of HKI Deleng Lagan church in Aceh Singkil. “I fear that it will worsen the atmosphere,” said Tengku on Wednesday October 14.

Tengku suggested all parties to restrain themselves, avoiding provocation. “We need to hold ourselves,” he said.

Moreover, he reminded fellow Muslims in Aceh to respect other religions. He also said that people should gain permit before establishing religious places.

“We also need permit to build a mosque. Violating regulation will result in sanction,” he said.
