The riots that occurred in several regions in Papua and West Papua recently occurred due to the action of a number of East Java Surabaya residents who allegedly carried out evictions and shouted racist words. This invited an angry reaction from the people of Papua in Papua, West Papua and throughout Indonesia, resulting in massive demonstrations in a number of areas. In addition, there was an anarchic situation in the Papua region so that the atmosphere was not conducive.
However, the government, including the military and police continue to strive to maintain security in the provinces of Papua and West Papua by involving religious leaders, community leaders, and traditional leaders there. At present, the Papua region can be said to be safely controlled. Although there had been demonstrations at several points, the conditions were stable and the demonstrations were peaceful.
It was not separated from the efforts of the security forces and the local government in inviting religious leaders, community leaders, and traditional leaders there to dialogue. On the other hand, this event also occurs due to irresponsible persons who use inappropriate words when conducting evictions.
Indonesia is a peaceful country, where the population is very tolerant of differences. Therefore, this kind of event is not expected to happen a second time. Papua is a nation in Indonesia. Without Papua, Indonesia cannot be whole and beautiful.
