Police Release ISIS Sympathizer Civil Servant

North Luwu Resort Police of South Sulawesi have released Risal Yusab, a 37-year-old civil servant from North Luwu Public Works Department, the police said Monday, September 21.

North Luwu Resort Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Muhammad Endro said that although Risal was released, he will continue to be monitored by the authorities.

“We have released him, but will still be under our surveillance. All of his activities will be monitored,” Endro said Monday.

Endro said from the investigation result, there were no strong indications leading Risal to ISIS, although a Mujahideen logo and documents were discovered at his home.

Military District Command 1403 Sawerigading Chief Lt.Col Cecep Sutendi say the spreading of ISIS influence targets all society. “I have instructed all armed forces to increase awareness for the possibility of ISIS followers.”

The ISIS logo displayed on the terrace of Risal’s house was first discovered by Chief Sergeant Muhammad Abdi in Bintara Village when passing by the house. It was then reported to the District Command Chief then forwarded to North Luwu Resort Police to conduct a search.

From the search, the police and armed forces unveil a number of evidences in documents of ISIS leader Al-Baghdadi, ISIS-related personal recordings, and a pair of camouflage pants.

North Luwu Regent Indah Puri Indriani was shocked and did not believe that her subordinate was an ISIS sympathizer, as Risal is known to be a well-behaved and open person. Risal is active in various sports activities. “He socializes a lot, but I will dig further.”
