The National Sports Week is a sports event awaited by regional athletes to compete and increase self-esteem through achievement. Therefore, this event must be worked on seriously, because it is through this event that achievement and prestige can be fought for honorably.
In 2021, Papua was successfully selected as the host of PON XX, of course this must be a commitment for the Papua provincial government to be able to hold XX PON safely and smoothly.
The Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Pol Paulus Waterpauw said that his party had encouraged the implementation of PON in Papua, this moment was also the initial trigger in 2021. So he hoped that his party would often be involved in meeting activities with PB PON 2021.
If there are input related to security in the field, his party can handle it.
For example, from the transportation sector, of course the security forces must measure the length of roads and the number of vehicles that enter from Jayapura City to Jayapura Regency, the roads will be full, so it must be assessed as soon as possible.
In addition, he also needs a special strategy related to how to secure the hustle and bustle of the contingent arrival .
Waterpau added, as the host of PON. His party still continues to have some violence that occurs and must be taken into consideration, so that intelligence from the TNI-Polri must work hard, to approach things that will happen in the future.
Meanwhile, the issue of Papua, especially related to the independence of Papua and West Papua, is often busy being the spotlight of the international community, especially countries in the Pacific region.
Of course, this must be anticipated by security teams such as the Police and the TNI, so as not to interfere with the sports that are competed nationally.
Gatot also asked the Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpauw to prepare facilities and infrastructure to secure PON 2021 in Papua. Especially, in direct coordination with the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe.
He also requested that the place for supervision and security at athletes’ lodgings be rearranged. The number of lodgings at PON 2021 in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic will affect the distribution of Police personnel.
The Papua Police Chief was also asked to create a sense of security for athletes who come from various regions. Security is asked to cooperate with the local government.
On different occasions, the General Chairperson, KONI, Marciano Norman, provided the latest news regarding the continuation of PON Papua 2021 amidst the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic that have not subsided in Indonesia.
According to Marciano, PON Papua will continue according to the predetermined schedule, namely on October 2 – 31, 2021.
Various oblique issues related to Papua, of course, need to be addressed. Indonesia is currently preparing for the PON event, so the campaign related to colonialism in Papua must be crushed.
European Director I of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu), Ida Bagus Made Bimantara, emphasized that various issues in Papua are entirely domestic affairs, and all countries understand and respect Indonesia’s position.
The international community needs to know that Papua is hosting XX PON with various exercises.
President Joko Widodo had reminded that PON in Papua is not just a sports competition. But PON is a common arena to celebrate diversity, strengthen the spirit of brotherhood and an arena to strengthen unity and integrity.
The President also asked for a report from the relevant ranks. Such as the readiness of the venue and accommodation for athletes from all over the archipelago who will later compete in Papua.
In particular, the President also requested a report from the Deputy Governor of Papua regarding developments in the preparation of existing infrastructure at the location of the operation.
The Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, said that the conditions in Papua are the same as in other areas of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) such as Java, Jakarta, Sumatra, are safe and there is nothing to be afraid of. So that there is no problem for Papua.
In line with what was said by Governor Lukas Enembe, the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali also admitted that he was not worried about the security conditions in Papua. The Papuan people are also considered to be very ready to hold PON.
However, security during the XX Papua PON must be considered, so that the international community will highlight Papua as a developed province.
