President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who is currently in Sochi, Russia for an ASEAN-Russia Summit, met with Vietnamese Prime Minister, Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Thursday.
At the meeting, President Jokowi was accompanied by Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Darmin Nasution, State Enterprises Minister, Rini Soemarno, Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Susi Pudjiastuti, Trade Minister, Thomas Lembong and the Chief of the Presidential Staff, Teten Masduki.
President Jokowi and the delegation arrived at the Bilateral III Room of Hotel Radisson Blu, where the meeting took place with the Vietnamese delegation.
Vietnamese PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister, Pham Binh Minh, Minister of Government Secretariat, Mai Tien Dung, Minister of Planning and Investment, Nguyen Chi Dung, Trade Ministerm, Tran Tuan Anh and Deputy Foreign Minister, Le Hoai Trung.
Minister Retno said on Wednesday evening that the meeting between the two leaders would be an introductory meeting as the prime minister of Vietnam only assumed office in April this year.
Earlier, President Jokowi had met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the latters residence, Bocharoc Rucey.
Potential cooperation deals were discussed, including increasing palm oil exports from Indonesia to Russia, defense and security cooperation, energy and tourism.
Regarding defense and security, President Jokowi said that besides trading weapon systems, Indonesia and Russia also need to cooperate in intelligence information sharing on terrorism and transfer of technology weaponry systems.
President Jokowi also invited President Putin to visit Jakarta.
