Radicalism Threatens National Integrity

Radicalism in Indonesia is indeed a serious problem, simply radical is the attitude or actions of someone who opposes the state’s constitution and ideology. Radical understanding is still considered a serious threat because it is able to threaten the integrity of the nation.

Radical adherents usually seem exclusive and closed with their social environment, they always voice that Pancasila is not in accordance with the Shari’ah, respect for the red and white flag is also not in accordance with the Shari’ah.

In this case, we need to know how the history of Islam entered Indonesia. Of course Islam enters in a peaceful way. Even through the approach of human social behavior and culture

So it is not uncommon for Islamic da’wah to be performed using the wayang performance method. Indeed it is socially humanitarian when Islam is present in a place does not change the culture of people.

Meanwhile, the University of Indonesia (UI) Strategic and Global Studies instructor Puspitasari assessed the rapid spread of radical understanding because it was used by instant campaigners. Its adherents use social media and features on the Internet so that its spread becomes massive and widespread.

Puspitasari said, Pancasila was eroded because of the massive radicalism understanding campaign. He asserted that if Pancasila was dealing with radical groups that used propaganda, it was also necessary to use the (counter) propaganda principle.

Radical groups have expertise in framing messages with propaganda models. As a result, the doctrine delivered is more embedded, faster and easier.

Worse, some campuses both public and private, some students loudly spoke at a seminar on campus, that Indonesia is not progressing because it uses ideology.

Radical groups will use historical narratives, namely the teaching of historical values that not arouse wisdom, but the value of revenge. Historical educators must make this one of their major homeworks.

In addition, the radicals also enter through religious narratives, they are able to make the youth’s turmoil to provide doctrine that has the opportunity to give birth to intolerance.

A number of radicalism actions that occurred in Indonesia were carried out in the name of religion. This happens because religion is most easily used as a tool for various purposes.

Of course people must be careful in involving religion in any case. Because, not a few parties who use religion to defend themselves and other purposes.

Acts of radicalism in the name of religion usually have nothing to do with religion. But there are other interests or problems behind it.

Governor of the Faculty of Engineering Student Federation Raja Faisal revealed, radicalism is still a threat in 2020. Especially through social media that is often used to convey radical messages so that it becomes a doctrine to lead public opinion.

He also said that the increase in the amount of radical content in 2019 was influenced by a number of factors, including communication on social media that had accelerated the spread of radical understanding and became a poison that was difficult to get a bidder.

The government under the leadership of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has given special attention to the radicalism movement which has the potential to threaten the future of the nation and state.

This is based on the national goals of the Indonesian nation as stated in the 1945 Constitution, namely to protect the entire Indonesian nation and the entire Indonesian Blood Oath, Promoting Public Welfare, Educating the life of the nation and participating in carrying out world order.

Spokesperson for the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Wawan Purwanto said young people aged 17-24 were very vulnerable to being exposed to radicalism and terrorism, because in that phase they were still in the phase of looking for identity so they were easily influenced. Besides that, they have relatively no dependents.

He also stressed many cases of terrorism such as suicide bombings involving young children because there are underlying factors. One factor is not critical in considering something including the swift flow of radical ideas that target young people.

BIN also continues to carry out public literacy, digital literacy, including cyber patrols to conduct early detection and also report quickly.

It also continues to make efforts to approach including those whose families are exposed to radicalism and terrorism.

Radicalism will not disappear by itself, it takes the role of various parties to crush and reduce the spread of radical ideas.
