Researchers Equals Institute Halili said, during the year 2016 occurred 208 events with 270 actions. Meanwhile, by 2017 there are 151 events with 201 actions.
Halili said, compared with last year’s data, there was a significant decline in numbers and events. From these figures, there was a decrease in the incidence of KBB violations by 53 events and 69 actions in 2017, compared to 2016. However, the number of events and acts of KBB violation is considered Halili is still high, as above the number 100.
Halili said that the high rate of KBB violation is generally because there is no substantive prerequisite for the establishment of ideal freedom of religion / belief conditions.
Halili revealed that the decline in the number of KBB violation events and their actions occurred due to the emergence of initiatives and civil society movement that is tolerant. During this time, the community is often only regarded as a silent majority. They take the initiative and role to fight intolerance, discrimination, and the ideals that lead to the destruction of shared values of life in the differences and ideology of extremism by violence.
He added that the decline in events and acts of ban is because the government has a strong political will in leading the promotion of tolerance in Indonesia.
He said that Nawa Cita Jokowi-JK, the abolition of religious columns (e-KTP) by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the drafting of religious protection law, and the fulfillment of the right to religious teaching in formal educational institutions for the believer. This decrease should be noted as an important progress in promoting the tolerance and fulfillment of the citizens’ constitutional right to freedom of religion.
The decline in the number of KBB violations, indicating the government has a strong political will to this problem through the policies it makes. We are grateful that there seems to be progress on the level of government awareness, there is significant progress at the state apparatus level, both at the political leadership level.
