CIDISS. The presence of starups, especially with a valuation value of up to USD 1 billion or commonly called Unicorn, is expected to be able to assist the government in increasing economic growth and innovation in the country.
Member of the House of Representatives Commission XI, Eva Kusuma Sundari said, these unicorns should be able to better understand their role in the movement of the Indonesian economy, especially when the rupiah is weakening as it is today.
Eva revealed that Indonesia needs to increase the competition index so that Unicorns stay stay working on the domestic market, because our potential is huge.
He explained, with the support of a large population and the increasing number of internet users, Indonesia is now slowly moving towards the largest digital economic ecosystem in Southeast Asia.
The Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) calls 143.26 million Indonesians to use the internet by the end of 2017. Currently there are at least four unicorns in Indonesia, namely GoJek, Tokopedia, Traveloka and Bukalapak.
Eva said, clearly this number was a very lucrative market for startup companies who dreamed of becoming a Unicorn.
With the presence of starup is expected to be able to assist the government in increasing economic growth in the country. So that whatever conditions are being experienced by the Indonesian state, the Indonesian economy remains stable even though the rupiah is in a weak condition.
