Support the KPK Supervisory Board

President Jokowi installed the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Board of Trustees for the 2019-2023 period on Friday (12/20/2019). The establishment of the Supervisory Board is expected to be able to oversee the performance of the KPK in combating corruption.
The establishment of the old KPK Supervisory Board will now work. Initially, the Supervisory Board’s discourse that would be put in place reaped a lot of pros and cons. For those who are pro, of course the existence of this special team will be able to monitor all the performance of the parties concerned. However, for those who contra state that the establishment of Dewas (Supervisory Board) indicates a weakening of the KPK.
The existence of Dewas will actually be able to help interfaith institutions in Indonesia grow. Bearing in mind, many of the problems in the KPK are stagnant and have not found a way. Even though the people are waiting for the decision on the fate of the corruptors who afflict them.
The presence of Dewas is expected to be able to unravel the work jams of the KPK, which has the following authority;

  1. Participate in overseeing the implementation of the duties and authority of the Corruption Eradication Commission.
  2. Entitled to give permission or not give permission for wiretapping, search and seizure;
  3. Develop and establish a code of conduct for KPK leaders and employees
  4. Holding hearings to check for alleged violations of the code of ethics committed by the Corruption Eradication Commission Chair and Staff.
  5. Periodically evaluating the performance of KPK Leaders and Employees, namely (one) time within 1 (one) year.
  6. Receive and follow up on reports from the public regarding the alleged violation of the code of ethics committed by the Chairperson and Staff of the KPK or violations of the provisions in this Law.
  7. Make reports on the implementation of tasks periodically namely, 1 (one) time within a period of 1 (one) year, which is then submitted to the President and the Parliament.
    Previously President Joko Widodo had approved the formation of a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Supervisory Board. As stated in the draft revision of the KPK Law, specifically Article 37A and 37B. Jokowi believes that the formation of the Supervisory Board will be able to control the KPK.
    Meanwhile, House Commission III, Herman Herry, said that House Commission III is ready to oversee the maximum performance of the new KPK leadership. The five leaders who have just been installed by Jokowi are expected to work optimally to eradicate and prevent corruption.
    Herman is optimistic that the five new KPK leaders are the best figures. Because their election by Jokowi must have been through a very mature consideration.
    According to him, the agenda for eradicating corruption can be completed with a plenary if there is effective coordination between all parties. In this case, the DPR RI supports the performance of the KPK and all measures considered capable of strengthening the corruption eradication agenda.
    He said if the agenda to eradicate corruption was not only the duty of the KPK, but rather a joint task of all elements of the nation and state. Commission III of the Indonesian Parliament as the partner of the KPK must always be ready to support the entire performance of the KPK going forward.
    Regarding the election of the Supervisory Board, many people have wondered and even doubted whether Jokowi’s choice is able to provide evidence of solid performance. Unexpectedly the five chosen people were labeled as capable and feared by the Corruptors and corrupt candidates. Because they have a majority background of law enforcement, judges, as well as former “insiders” KPK, and also intellectuals.
    As an example of Artidjo, everyone knows that this former judge worked non-foolishly when he imposed sanctions on a person who was proven to have committed corruption. In his hands, the weight and sentence can be higher than predicted.
    Thus, public doubts that the KPK Dewas will weaken efforts to eradicate corruption would be able to be broken. Even with the potential that would hamper the duties and performance of the KPK commissioners also seemed to disappear. It is precisely their presence is considered capable of strengthening the position along with the authority (leadership and employees) of the KPK, because it will be the best role model.
    This confidence in the Supervisory Board will certainly increase when its performance has been proven. Although it is not yet running, it is hoped that Dewas will be able to optimize the performance of the corruption eradication institution as a whole. Bearing in mind, Dewas’s background is quite reliable as the frontline in strengthening the Anti rasuah institution in Indonesia. So that there will be no more complaints that are considered to interfere with the KPK system to move forward in combating acts of corruption that are increasingly burdening.
