Terrorism Is a Common Enemy

The fight against terrorism is an endless job. This ideology continues to emerge and develop from time to time. The role of all parties is needed, considering that Terrorism is not only an enemy of the Government, but also a common enemy. Terrorism has become something frightening, because terrorism has become a movement that has always caused many casualties from civil society that are not directly related. Strangely the threat of a death sentence does not necessarily make terrorists stop their action, instead terrorists now have the courage to carry out suicide bombings in public places like what happened at the Medan Police Station recently.

As a result of the explosion that occurred during SKCK’s service hours, as many as 6 people were injured in the explosion which was allegedly a suicide bombing. The six included four police officers, 1 PHL member and one citizen who was making SKCK. The rise of terrorist acts from year to year proves that terrorism is a crime against human values, acts of terrorism that have occurred so far have resulted in loss of lives regardless of victims, ranging from children to adults, civilians to security forces, even in some bomb blasting events, victims must experience lifelong disabilities and other chronic psychological disorders.

Prof. Cecep Darmawan who is a Professor of Political Science at UPI said that terrorism is an extraordinary crime that is universal and threatens human values, peace, security, unity and even civilization. Terrorism is the greatest enemy of humanity of all time. How could I not, the bombing could not be justified despite getting labeled jihad though, logically how God could love his servant who injured his other creatures. Labeling Jihad in bombing is certainly a very superficial thought.

Prof. Cecep also added that the root causes of terrorism are caused by a lack of understanding of nationalism and nationalist insight, shallow knowledge and understanding of religion, and low fulfillment of people’s basic needs namely welfare and social and economic inequality. In addition, one of the factors that causes a person to carry out acts of terror is allegedly due to family disharmony, but not all terrorist actors that occur in the country do not depart from the anxiety of family factors, but there is also someone who comes from a happy family but is influenced by something finally entered into a terrorist group.

Previously, the Indonesian National Police had also invited all components of the state and society to unite and make the crime of terrorism a common enemy.
The Indonesian National Police also appeals to the entire community to remain calm without reducing vigilance, and to carry out daily activities as usual. The Indonesian National Police also reminded that all members of the community continue to work together to provide security in their respective environments.

The Human Rights Approach plays a very important role in identifying the root causes of terrorism, from social, economic, cultural and political factors. Thus, the counter-terrorism policy through prevention, mitigation and deradicalization can run effectively and on target.
Certainly, we all agree that terror is a common enemy of humanity, so it is in our mutual interest and duty to fight it. An integrated approach between the government, civil society and non-state actors is needed because terror will not be finished through legal action alone.

Acts of terrorism have taken away the human rights of victims and society in general, especially the right to life, the right to security and freedom from fear. Terror also causes instability in a region and nation, endangers the community, and poses a threat to peace and development that is being promoted by the government.

In this case the state certainly has a duty to protect everyone, including by taking the maximum possible action to prosecute terrorists by prioritizing the due process of law. Dealing with terrorism in the right and right way and approach, based on respecting and protecting human rights, must be an important part of policies and programs to combat the crime of terrorism.

We must also remind each other to remain aware of the provocation and incitement of groups who show sympathy for acts of terror, especially against anything that smells of radicalism or extremism that uses religious excuses to carry out acts of violence.
