A fire broke out in a Papua hostel in Tomohon, North Sulawesi on Sunday (10/20/2019). According to a number of parties this was purely an accident, so people were advised not to speculate further.
The West Papua Dormitory incident in Tomohon in North Sulawesi occurred on Sunday (10/20/2019). The hostel is located in Talete Dua Village, Tomohon District, North Sulawesi Province. The fire allegedly originated from one of the student rooms in the hostel. According to the explanation of Mr. Asrama Putra Kamasan Eight, named Abel Tumurang the fire originated from the second floor of the dormitory building.
This incident, is estimated to occur around 10:00 to 10:30 Central Indonesia Time. Abel said that he was at the girls’ dormitory when he was called by the police. Who mentioned that there was a fire in the dormitory, he thought that what was burning was a male dormitory, considering that in the female dormitory nothing happened. So he immediately rushed to the scene.
Until now, the number of Papuan students who are in the location as many as 15 people, while when the incident took place, there were around 6 people. Because, the others are going to church. Initially there were 40 to 50 students there, but many had returned.
On the other hand, Christian Imbir as the theology student at Tomohon Christian University of Indonesia from Raja Ampat said the fire came from the upper floor. While he was downstairs. The other party who confirmed the incident was the North Sumatra Regional Police Head of Public Relations, namely Kombes Ibrahim Tompo.
He said, that the incident was allegedly due to fire originating from one of the student rooms. Namely, Noval Ram Man Dibodibo, a student from Biak who was then in his room. Ibrahim also explained the chronology of the fire incident that began when Noval played matches and burned paper. Unexpectedly the burning flame fell into the foam of his bed. Which quickly spread the fire and burned the entire room. Out of fear, he hurriedly left his burning room.
According to reports, as many as seven firefighters were deployed and were grateful the red rooster was able to be tamed. Furthermore, in order to accommodate the residents of the hostel, the Polres and Mayor of Tomohon have coordinated to prepare a temporary place to live. In addition, it also requested laboratory assistance to investigate this incident. Including examining witnesses.
In this regard, this incident was declared purely an accident, without other indications including politics. So that all parties are asked to remain calm and not speculate. Because, this is needed in order to avoid various “slanted” reporting related to this incident.
