The XX XX 2020 National Sports Week (PON) will be held in Papua. The government also guarantees the security of the national sports event so that young Papuan talents can be better known to the world.
Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission X, Abdul Fikri Faqih called on the Government to ensure security and smoothness for the 20th National Sports Week (PON) in Papua this October.
This follows two calamities that have struck, namely the corona virus outbreak and security disturbances in Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency.
In the midst of the outbreak of the corona virus pandemic, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) remains committed to completing the construction of a sports arena to support the XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua Province in 2020.
The construction of four sports venues is still being carried out so that it can be completed on time, with due regard to safety aspects, health protocols and adjusting the policies of the Central and Regional Governments.
PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said, Infrastructure Development in the framework of supporting PON XX 2020 in Papua, must be considered in detail starting from the design stage, the construction stage to the supervision stage .
Four sports arenas being built by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing through the Directorate General (DG) of Cipta Karya in Jayapura Regency, namely the aquatic arena and Istora Papua Bangkit in the Sports Village of Kampung Harapan, East Sentani District and Venue Krik et and hockey fields (indoor and outdoor) in the complex sports Doyo Baru, Walbu District.
Until March 26, 2020, the progress of the physical implementation of the Istora venue reached 82.95%, the aquatic venue reached 80.87% and the cricket venue and indoor and outdoor hockey fields reached 92.14%
Head of the Center for Educational, Sports and Market Infrastructure Development, DG Cipta Karya Iwan Suprijanto said that currently a joint agreement had been made between the Governor of Papua, members of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkomp imda), Regents and Mayors and all stakeholders in Papua Province related to prevention, Covid-19 control and control.
Where one of the points is the issuance of the policy of closing airport flights and shipping of passengers at the entrances in the Papua region.
This will certainly affect the implementation of the construction of the PON venue because there will be difficulties in the delivery of material from outside the Papua region, the addition of manpower, and future certification experts. But the Ministry of Public Works and Housing continues to move in the context of completing the country’s task to build the Papua PON venue on time.
The construction of the Papua Bangkit istora has begun in November 2018 and is targeted to be completed by June 2020.
Istora Papua Bangkit area is equipped with an area plaza arena including a vehicle parking area inside and outside the istora area with dome-shaped steel pipe or frame construction that has a stretch of approximately 85 meters.
The Istora venue roof truss structure is currently in the process of registering MURI Records as the longest span steel Dome frame in Indonesia.
The Ministry of PUPR also still gets the mandate to complete the three new PON venues, namely the Roller Skating Arena , Archery Venue and Paddle Venue whose construction began to be carried out at the end of February and the structuring of the village of hope as a supporting area for the istora and aquatic venues whose implementation only began at the end of January.
In addition, the arrangement of the Doya Baru area also supports the cricket, outdoor hockey and indoor hockey arenas, the implementation of which begins at the end of December 2019.
Meanwhile, the Province of South Sulawesi (South Sulawesi) is increasingly ready to face a sports party in Papua in the coming August, even though Indonesia is facing a corona virus pandemic.
Previously, the Vice President (Vice President) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin, said that Papua PON XX could most likely be postponed if the corona virus or covid-19 outbreak in the country had not yet ended.
Ma’ruf explained, the current government continues to monitor the latest condition of the corona virus outbreak before deciding to postpone the PON 2020 Papua. He also could not be sure of rescheduling if PON 2020 Papua was really postponed.
He said, the implementation of the PON would continue to be observed. If later the corona is still not gone, meaning that it is still a threat, surely the results will be postponed, like the Olympics in Japan.
Of course all things have been prepared by the government to be able to hold a lively PON XX Papua and give birth to national athletes from various parts of the country.
