Indonesias national anthem “Indonesia Raya” was played to greet President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) when he visited the Twitter Headquarters here, Wednesday afternoon.
Jokowi and First Lady Iriana were welcomed by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. He spoke to Twitter executives and Indonesians working in Twitters main office.
Jokowi and Dorsey later held talks in Live Studio, among other things, on ways to use Twitter to promote digital democracy and spread messages of tolerance and peace.
“I call on @Twitter to participate in the dissemination of messages of tolerance and world peace – Jkw,” the president stated on his Twitter handle from the Headquarters.
As Jokowi was about to leave the Headquarters, “Indonesia Raya” was once again played on an unmanned player piano.
The Indonesian head of state also lauded Twitters role as a crucial media platform that promotes positive values, such as democracy and good governance to the public.
Furthermore, Jokowi expressed hope that Twitter would increase cooperation with Indonesia in spreading humanitarian messages.
The president cited disaster response, tolerance, moderation, and peace as examples of such messages.
Jokowi was in California, the United States, on February 14-17 to attend the US-ASEAN Summit, the first ever to be hosted by the US government.
