The public appreciates the election of Indonesia as the organizer of the G20 Summit. This appointment is a form of international public trust in the Indonesian government which is able to organize various international events.
Indonesia has received international trust to hold the G20 Summit in Bali in 2022. Indonesia’s presence is already in a very calculated position. The proof is when there is an international forum, the audience immediately stands applaud when President Jokowi enters the room. They also respect Indonesia because it is considered a potential country in Southeast Asia.
While attending the 2021 G20 meeting in Rome, Italy, President Jokowi accepted the trust as the presidency. This means that our country has been given the mandate to become the chairman, and this is a sign that many leaders of other countries are convinced that he is capable of taking the position.
When he becomes the presidency, the 2022 G20 Summit will be held in Indonesia, precisely in October, in Bali. President Jokowi briefly inspected the building that will be used as the venue for the international meeting, on October 8, 2021. He ensured that the facilities were fully provided, so that guests from representatives of other countries felt comfortable.
We should give our appreciation because since the G20 Summit was held in 1999, this is the first time Indonesia has been appointed as the president and the organizer. To handle international events, of course, it takes a lot of preparation, and we are considered capable of doing so. This means that other countries think that Indonesia can be a good host, because it is flexible to get along in the international world.
The G20 is an international forum consisting of countries with developed economies. Being a member of the G20 is actually an achievement, because we are considered to have financial stability. So it has a strong position in international trade.
So far, sometimes there have been oblique accusations against Indonesia, and there are those who think that we are still isolated and live below the poverty line. However, the countries of the G20 believe that currently Indonesia has excelled and has changed a lot. The reason is that some of them have visited this country and were amazed by its natural beauty and facilities.
We should also give our appreciation to President Jokowi, because thanks to him, Indonesia has a stable economy, even though it was hit by a pandemic. During this nearly 2-year pandemic, there has been a global crisis, but we were able to get through it and not fall into a recession, or krismon like in 1998.
When the country’s economy is stable, Indonesia will remain a member of the G20, as an elite forum in the international world. Its members are only 19 countries and 1 European Union, so it is truly exclusive.
By becoming a member and organizer of the G20 Summit, there are many benefits that Indonesia can get. First, there will be strong international trade links, because both Indonesia and other countries (such as South Korea) have mutually beneficial business deals.
Second, when hosting the G20 summit, Indonesia will have the potential to add foreign investors. The reason is, many guests from representatives of other countries see that in our country there are still many natural resources that can be processed and there are also many human resources. The bureaucracy is also softened, so they are happy to invest in Indonesia.
Indonesia is trusted to host the 2022 G20 Summit. Even though it will still be held next year, this is a good thing, because many other countries appreciate us. They recognize President Jokowi’s leadership and are willing to cooperate in the business sector.
