Bulog Prepares Bigger Rice Supply

President Director of the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) Djarot Kusumayakti said that the agency was preparing more rice supply to anticipate the delay of rice harvest due to the prolonged dry season this year.

He also hoped that the rainy season would soon come so that the harvest season would not be delayed.

“It will be difficult for Bulog to have rice supply until the end of this year if the harvest season is delayed,” he said at the Vice Presidential Palace on Friday.

Djarot added that Bulog’s rice supply currently stands at 1.7 tons of rice and it is expected to be able to meet the demand until December this year. According to him, if the harvest season were delayed, Bulog would prepare a bigger rice supply by the end of this year.

Djarot further said if the planting season was done between September- October, the harvest could be done between January – February next year. However, if the rainy season comes late, it can be assured that Bulog would find difficulties getting rice supply from the farmers.
