JAKARTA – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto emphasized his commitment to continue the Development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). According to him, the IKN project is very important for equitable development and reducing the burden on Java Island which has been the center of population and economic activity.
This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono at the office of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Jakarta.
According to him, development will take place with a number of adjustments.
“IKN was once again conveyed by the President that we will continue, of course with a number of adjustments,” said the man who is often called AHY.
The adjustments referred to refer to the limited state budget, he said.
AHY also said that President Prabowo wanted to focus first on completing the development of the core government areas, especially for the executive, legislative and judicial institutions.
“If the three main elements of this government can immediately prepare their infrastructure and facilities, then actually the main needs for decision-making in this country can be carried out,” he said.
Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni said the same thing. According to him, infrastructure related to government must be completed first considering the IKN as the political capital in the future.
“The President hopes that the DPR/MPR Plenary Session can be held at the IKN in August 2028. The President even hopes that the inauguration of the president and vice president in 2029 will be held at the IKN,” said Raja Juli.
The government has also allocated funds from the APBN of IDR 15 trillion for financing the IKN in 2025. Deputy Minister of Finance (Wamenkeu), Thomas Djiwandono, detailed the IKN budget allocation consisting of IDR 5.89 trillion for the IKN Authority (OIKN) and IDR 9.11 trillion used by the Ministry of PU.
“The figure could change, but the principle is that a lot of space is given to Mr Prabowo for discretion,” he said.
With that total, Prabowo targets the infrastructure development in the IKN to be completed within 3 to 4 years. As a continuation, Prabowo appointed the Minister of PUPR during the Joko Widodo era, Basuki Hadimuljono to become the head of the IKN Authority (OIKN).
