Jakarta – High appreciation should be given to Indonesia which continues to bring and promote the idea of gender equality at the upcoming 44th AIPA Assembly.
The DPR RI continues to push for the idea of gender equality at the 44th Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), in Jakarta on 5-10 August 2023.
The Chairperson of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani said there was a need for awareness and equality of access and roles for men and women. This principle is based on equality in all areas and levels of public life. Mainly in decision-making positions, such as in the world of politics”
“There needs to be awareness of equal access and roles for both men and women. On the basis of the principle of equality, in all areas and levels of public life. Especially in decision-making positions, including in the world of politics,” said Puan Maharani.
On one occasion, Puan also conveyed the formulation of the topic of gender equality to fight for women’s involvement in politics.
“The struggle for gender equality is a collective struggle. By involving women in decision-making, this is a real step in promoting gender equality at the ASEAN level,” he added.
This is because in Indonesia itself it has prioritized gender equality which can be seen from the many important government positions occupied by women.
“Indonesia is one of the most advanced in terms of gender equality because Indonesia already has its first female president, female vice president, female DPR Speaker, many female ministers, especially regional heads. Not to mention in non-public service fields, there are lots of women who are in charge,” said Puan.
This means that, indeed, there have been many women in Indonesia who have succeeded in proving that they also have the capacity and capability as good leaders, and are not inferior to men.
Therefore, the DPR RI recommends that the issue of women’s involvement in all fields, especially politics, be used as a joint resolution to create women’s policies in politics.
Meanwhile, DPR RI Member Luluk Nur Hamidah also welcomed the DPR’s initiative to raise the issue of gender equality at the upcoming 44th AIPA Session.
“It is important when we bring this issue up at the ASEAN level so that the status of women’s representation within ASEAN can also be much improved,” she said.
Apart from fighting for women’s involvement in politics, it is hoped that in the future they will be able to apply zero tolerance towards sexual harassment.
“I also hope that there is a mechanism that can be agreed upon and at the same time obeyed so that we implement zero tolerance for sexual harassment and sexual violence,” he concluded. [*]
