Jakarta – CIDISS. Border management is importance because directly related to enforcement of state sovereignty, the enforcement of national defense and security, efficient use of resources and equitable development, as well as shared responsibility in building the competitiveness of border community residents to offset the socio-economic activities of neighboring countries. So for border management can’t rely only approach to security (security approach), but also should be accompanied by a welfare (prosperity approach) and the approach to the environment (environment approach) together.

Therefore, to realize the comprehensive management of the border region, the government runs a program of Integrated Border Development Movement (GERBANGDUTAS). Gerbangdutas itself is a program for development to border regions into one door and comprehensively across all relevant stakeholders such as the Ministry of Construction Works, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Rural PDT and Transmigration, National Agency for Border Management (BNPP) to the Police and other concerned parties, so that the development of border regions can be optimized.

Gerbangdutas program has been implemented in each border region, even in the near future precisely on December 9 until August 11, 2016, will be implemented National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) program Gerbangdutas Kalabahi Alor district, East Nusa Tenggara province. This was stated by the Head of Public Relations of Alor District, Fredrik Lahal.

Gerbangdutas is a form of seriousness and commitment in realizing the President Joko Widodo Nawa Cita, one of which is to build Indonesia from the periphery. Gerbangdutas is expected to encourage the acceleration of development in the border region in order to immediately make the border region as a leading terrace of the Republic of Indonesia.

In addition, the concrete manifestation of this program must be available allocation of funds or a big enough budget to accelerate development in the border regions. Therefore, with respect to the magnitude of the budget allocation, it would require the cooperation of various parties including the Folk of Regional Representative Council (DPRD) of each region as the representation of the people to take control of the absorption and use of the budget so as not misused. The large budget allocation should be utilized well targeted and beneficial to the accelerated development of the region as well as increased prosperity in the border region so that development of border regions into a terrace leading NKRI dignified and prosperous society can be achieved.
