Government Expands Health Services Through Village Pharmacies

Jakarta – The government continues to strengthen the national health service system by providing more equitable access to the village level through the Village Pharmacy program.

This step is part of the government’s real commitment to ensure that every citizen has the basic right to easy, affordable, and quality health services.

The Village Pharmacy program is a concrete manifestation of President Prabowo Subianto’s grand vision in creating social justice and equitable national development.

During his visit to Majalengka, West Java on April 7, 2025, President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of the state’s presence in the village.

“So every village will have a pharmacy with medicines that are affordable for the village people,” said President Prabowo.

This statement shows the government’s strong determination to build a basic service system that truly touches the needs of the community directly.

Village Pharmacies not only provide generic drugs and limited over-the-counter drugs, but also become strategic centers for public health education.

This facility is managed by trained pharmaceutical technicians and integrated with the National Health Insurance (JKN) system and local health centers, so that synergy between health institutions in the village becomes stronger and more integrated. The government also encourages strengthening this service through a national digital system to ensure transparent, accountable, and targeted drug distribution.

Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, in an official event on April 14, 2025 in Jakarta emphasized that Village Pharmacies are an important part of the transformation of community-based health services.

“Village clinics and pharmacies play a role in implementing government programs in village community health services,” said Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

This statement reinforces that the government is actively building services that support village communities and expanding positive impacts to remote areas of the country.

Not only does it answer the challenge of limited access to medicine in villages, the Village Pharmacy program also opens up local jobs and empowers village communities in a sustainable manner.

The government actively involves Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), cooperatives, and health cadres so that pharmacy management truly provides direct economic and social benefits to local residents.

On the other hand, the presence of Village Pharmacies also strengthens national health resilience in the long term.

Through a data and technology-based drug distribution system, the government can respond to regional needs more quickly, prevent shortages, and effectively combat the spread of disease at the local level.

As of April 2025, this program has reached more than 100 villages and will be expanded to 10,000 villages by 2027, proving that the state is present in real terms down to the grassroots.

Village Pharmacies are a strong symbol of the government’s commitment to building a healthy, resilient, and sovereign foundation for Indonesia from village to city.[^]
