Religious leaders are pushing Muslims country to take the lead in conduct encouraging and escoting tolerance within multicultural religion and etnic in Indonesia.
Religious Affairs Minister, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin said that increasing of religious conflict was a threat that could lead to the nation’s unraveling.
He emphasize “what we need right now is a public and leadership that is responsive to a divesity becoming increasly complex. We need to find ways to not get distracted by our diversity.”
Ahmad Fuad Fanani, research director at the Maarif Institute for Culture and Humanity, said Indonesian Muslims should growth tolerance that supported from Muslim organizations to talk over about pluralism.
“Organization such as Muhammadiyah (the second largest Islamic organization in Indonesia) should seriously discuss tolerance and diversity so that members of their communities can be more accepting of minority groups,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Syafii Maarif, former chairman of Muhammadiyah and founder of the Maarif Institute said the effort to promote pluralism in the country must star with Muslims themselves. He was warned that some Muslims were more concerned faith than with striving to understand the quality of Muslim itself.
He said further, Muslim to adhere to the inclusive teachings of the Koran so that minority groups in the country would be less worried conflict.
