Jakarta – Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Adies Kadir, gave high appreciation to law enforcement officers (APH) for their efforts in eradicating online gambling throughout 2024. According to Adies, these efforts succeeded in dismantling an international online gambling syndicate operating in Medan and Batam.
This syndicate is recorded to have more than 200,000 active users with a daily turnover reaching billions of rupiah, and utilizes sophisticated technology such as overseas servers and crypto transactions to avoid detection.
“This significant increase in law enforcement deserves appreciation,” said Adies.
He also added that the efforts made by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), in blocking thousands of online gambling sites are also very important.
“This effort is very important in preventing economic and moral damage to society,” he added.
On the other hand, Acting Director General of Public Communication and Media of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Molly Prabawaty, revealed that in the period from 1 to 6 January 2025, her ministry had successfully blocked around 43 thousand online gambling content. The blocked content included accounts and posts on social media platforms, file sharing, and sites on Google.
The party has also deleted influencer accounts that have a large number of followers, such as the IG accounts @becandayo, @putridelvasyakira, and @hitzmedsos.
“These accounts are affiliated with online gambling sites and promotions,” explained Molly.
Kemkomdigi does not work alone in this effort. They collaborate with various parties across sectors, including public complaints, agency reports, and cyber patrols.
From October 20, 2024 to January 6, 2025, Kemkomdigi claims to have removed more than 711,522 content, including 652,147 websites and IPs related to online gambling.
Molly stressed that cyberspace supervision is a priority, especially to protect children from exposure to online gambling.
“We never tire of reminding the public to always be vigilant and careful in digital activities,” he said.
