After the implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections, Indonesia has entered a crucial phase in maintaining national security stability. The success of this democratic party is not only measured by the voting process, but also by the state’s ability to maintain security and order in society. Collective efforts from various parties, including the National Police, the Indonesian Military, and the community, are key to creating a peaceful atmosphere after the Regional Elections.
Nunukan Police is one example of the success of the police in maintaining order after the Pilkada. Nunukan Police Chief, AKBP Bonifasius Rumbewas, through the Head of Public Information Sub-dept. Ipda Zainal Yusuf, emphasized that intensive patrols were carried out at various strategic points in Nunukan Regency. His party wants to ensure that the situation in Nunukan remains safe and under control, so that the community can continue their daily activities without worry.
This patrol involved various units, including Sabhara and local Polsek, and was accompanied by an appeal to the community to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and not be provoked by disturbing issues. This proactive step shows the alertness of the Police in anticipating potential conflicts that could arise after the Pilkada.
The Indonesian Air Force (AU) also plays a strategic role. The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force, Marshal Tonny, in a special New Year’s 2025 roll call at Mabesau, Jakarta, reminded of the importance of preparing security for the inauguration of regional heads to be held in February 2025. His party maintains national stability and security. This includes ensuring the smoothness and success of securing the inauguration of new regional heads.
This security is a continuation of the security efforts that the TNI has carried out during the 2024 political year, including securing voting and distributing election logistics to various regions. Not only that, Tonny also highlighted the importance of adapting to technological developments to face modern security threats, such as cybersecurity and advanced defense equipment technology.
The Chairman of the Indonesian Parliamentary Concerned Community Forum (Formappi), Lucius Karus, expressed his appreciation for the performance of the National Police in maintaining security during the 2024 Pilkada. Although there was criticism regarding the issue of neutrality, this did not have a significant impact on the stability of Pilkada security. From the process of determining candidates to the implementation of the Pilkada, security can be said to be running well.
Lucius hopes that the Police can continue to improve professionalism and maintain neutrality in the future. Other issues are certainly notes that must be fixed, both by the Police themselves and through better regulations.
Langkat Police also participated in maintaining conduciveness through Enhanced Routine Activities (KRYD) patrols. Langkat Police Chief, AKBP David Triyo Prasojo, said that this patrol was focused on vulnerable areas such as crowded centers, election organizers’ offices, and residential areas.
This patrol aims to anticipate crime and security disturbances after the regional elections. We also appeal to the public to respect each other’s political opinions and create a peaceful atmosphere in their respective environments. This approach is expected to be able to maintain security and order in Langkat Regency.
In DKI Jakarta, the Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU), Wahyu Dinata, appreciated the performance of the National Police in securing the stages of the General Election and Regional Election. Thanks to the hard work of the Polda Metro Jaya ranks, the implementation of the Regional Election in Jakarta took place safely and conducively. In fact, Jakarta, which is included in the five regions prone to elections according to the Election and Regional Election Vulnerability Index (IPKP), managed to go through the democratic process without a revote (PSU) or dispute over election results.
According to the Head of the Technical Division of the General Election Commission (KPU) of DKI Jakarta, Dody Wijaya, Jakarta is one of the 5 vulnerable areas in the Election and Regional Election Vulnerability Index (IPKP). However, the coordination and collaboration of the Jakarta KPU with the National Police has succeeded in implementing the Pilkada with zero revotes (Zero PSU) and without disputes over election results.
This achievement is proof of the professionalism of the Police in carrying out its duties as protectors of the community. Close collaboration between the KPU and the Police is a key factor in this success. Wahyu hopes that in 2025, the Police will continue to improve their performance and professionalism to maintain public security and order.
National security after the regional elections is not only the responsibility of the security forces, but also all elements of society. The importance of active community participation in maintaining security and order has been repeatedly emphasized by various parties. In this context, the public is urged not to be easily provoked by fake news or issues that can damage social harmony.
The steps taken by Polres Nunukan, TNI AU, and Polres Langkat show that a collective and coordinated approach is very effective in maintaining stability. From routine patrols to increasing technological capacity, all of these efforts are aimed at ensuring national security is maintained.
Collective efforts in maintaining national security after the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections prove that stability does not only depend on one institution, but is the result of cooperation between the National Police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, local governments, and the community. By continuing to prioritize a preventive approach, modern technology, and collaboration, Indonesia can face future security challenges. All parties are expected to remain consistent in maintaining stability so that a healthy and peaceful democracy can continue to be realized.
