Jakarta – The government, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi), has succeeded in taking action against thousands of online gambling-related content in just the first six days of 2025.
Acting Director General of Public Communication and Media of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Molly Prabawaty, stated that her party had blocked 43,063 online gambling (judol) content, accounts, and sites from January 1 to 6, 2025.
“In accordance with the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and the Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, it is important for us to protect the younger generation from judol content, illegal online loans, and other negative content in the digital space. In order to create superior human resources towards Indonesia Emas 2045,” said Molly.
In addition to these actions, Molly also explained that from October 20, 2024 to January 6, 2025, Kemkomdigi has removed 711,522 negative content through cyber patrols, public complaints, and reports from related agencies. Details of the content removed include 652,147 websites, 29,964 content on the Meta platform, 17,836 files on sharing services, 6,842 on Google/YouTube, 4,075 on the X platform, 435 on Telegram, and 219 on TikTok.
Kemkomdigi also blocks accounts with a large number of followers that are affiliated with online gambling promotions.
“We blocked accounts like @becandayo with 326 thousand followers, @putridelvasyakira with 670 thousand followers, and @hitzmedsos with 338 thousand followers,” added Molly.
Molly appealed to the public to remain vigilant against online gambling content.
“Let us make digital supervision a priority so that children can grow and develop healthily, safely, and free from exposure to damaging gambling,” he stressed.
Support for the eradication of online gambling also came from the Financial Services Authority (OJK). OJK’s Chief Executive of Banking Supervision, Dian Ediana Rae, said that OJK has blocked 8,500 accounts related to online gambling transactions.
“OJK has discussed and shared information with banks regarding parameters that can be used for early detection of accounts suspected of online gambling,” explained Dian.
In the future, OJK hopes that banks can be more sensitive in detecting suspicious activities and closing accounts involved. This effort is expected to narrow the scope for online gambling practices in Indonesia.
