The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe a suspect in a corruption case. The community also supports that law enforcement officers do not hesitate to take firm action against corruption cases in Papua which can actually hinder the realization of people’s welfare.
Since the Dutch colonial era hundreds of years ago, corruption has existed in Indonesia, and was increasingly rampant in the New Order era. But unfortunately after the period changed much later into the post-reform era, corruption is still carried out by officials. One of the astonishing corruption cases is that of Lukas Enembe, the Governor of Papua who has been a suspect since September 14, 2022.
Lukas Enembe is suspected to be a suspect for corruption amounting to hundreds of billions of rupiah. Meanwhile, when the account was dismantled, there were 71 billion rupiah in it. This amount is of course very fantastic and very unequal to the governor’s salary which is ‘only’ around millions of rupiah. People are also increasingly disappointed because there is a flow of funds of up to 500 billion rupiah from Luke to a gambling place.
Therefore, the public asked for firm action from the KPK and the authorities so that this corruption case was immediately dismantled as clearly as possible, and Lukas Enembe was brought before a judge. Moreover, the amount of money that was corrupted was very large and detrimental to the state. Do not let the KPK and law enforcement officers hesitate to take firm action against KPK corruption.
Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) requested that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) be firm in handling the case of Lukas Enembe. Don’t just ask the suspect to come on the day of the examination. When he has been absent from the call twice, there must be a forced pick-up.
In a sense, from the community to ICW, they are waiting for the firmness of the KPK in examining Lukas Enembe. Don’t just because the one you are dealing with is a governor, you will feel embarrassed. A governor is an Indonesian citizen and must obey the laws of Indonesia. Lukas must take responsibility for his actions and answer all questions in the corruption case.
The community asked the KPK for firmness in handling the Luke case so that law enforcement in Indonesia was carried out fairly. The law should not only be sharp down but blunt up. Corruption is a very serious crime because it is dangerous and can be transmitted to officials at the level below it.
As a leader, Luke Enembe should have done good and set an example. But he actually did the opposite, and disappointed many people. Even though so far he has had achievements and a good name, and has provided many scholarships for native Papuan sons to go to the highest level of education.
Maybe Luke forgot that the Dutch East Indies had been destroyed because of corruption. Do not let Indonesia also experience the same thing because of its officials doing this dangerous thing. Therefore, corruption cases must be thoroughly dismantled and the perpetrators given the appropriate punishment.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD stated that the Lukas Enembe case was not about politics, but pure corruption. He has become a suspect and must be dealt with firmly, not just a corruption suspect. Moreover, there are indications of a gratuity of 1 trillion rupiah and allegations of money laundering cases.
In a sense, when the authorities want to arrest Luke Enembe, then there should be no party to hinder, even defend him. This case is purely due to corruption and has been investigated by the KPK since 2017. It has nothing to do with attacks from political opponents.
The Papuan people should also not participate in defending Luke Enembe, because it is useless to defend the guilty. When the KPK has issued a lot of evidence, such as the flow of funds to gambling venues, then this can be confirmed as a case of corruption. Don’t just believe in the incitement of pro-Lukas provocateurs, and don’t easily believe provocations.
Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Asrul Sani stated that the examination of Lukas Enembe must be carried out, even though there are groups that hinder him. Law enforcement must be carried out throughout Indonesia, including in Papua.
In a sense, the examination of Luke should be done as soon as possible. Don’t let the pick-up time fail because there is a mass blocking it. There should also be anticipation, for example by bringing in more security personnel, so that the pick-up can run smoothly.
Nor should there be any reason on Luke’s part to be absent from the call for various reasons. The examination should have been carried out and then checked whether the corruption suspect is really sick, by bringing in a medical team, because most of them are lies.
Strict action against corruption cases in Papua must be carried out as soon as possible. The KPK and the authorities must be firm and quickly conduct an examination, if any suspect has been absent from the summons twice. With the examination of Luke Enembe, it is hoped that justice can be upheld and corruption can be eradicated.
