For Indonesia’s Golden Generation: Prabowo-Gibran Government Calls for Total War on Drugs

JAKARTA – The government of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka continues to demonstrate its commitment to realizing Indonesia’s Golden Generation. One of the strategic steps is to launch a total war against drug abuse through the Asta Cita mission. This effort involves synergy between various parties, including the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN).

The Chief of Police, General of Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo reported the success of the drug eradication desk to President Prabowo at the 2024 Police Kasatwil Roll Call. Since its formation on November 4, this desk has succeeded in uncovering 3,608 drug cases with 3,965 suspects. The confiscated evidence reached a fantastic value of IDR 2.88 trillion. Moreover, this step has succeeded in saving around 10 million lives from the threat of drug abuse.

“The National Police together with related ministries and institutions continue to work to eradicate drug abuse in order to support the great mission of Asta Cita. This step is real evidence of the government’s commitment to protecting the nation’s generation,” said General Sigit.

In addition, efforts to eradicate online gambling have also shown significant results with 789 cases revealed and evidence worth Rp 220 billion. This step not only enforces the law, but also strengthens public morality.

On the other hand, BNN also plays an important role through the evaluation of the Community-Based Intervention (IBM) program. This program has reached 418 units throughout Indonesia, with a community approach to the recovery of drug abusers. Director of PLRKM BNN, dr. Amrita Devi, revealed that the IBM program has the potential to be a more affordable and effective rehabilitation alternative.

“We ensure that IBM provides real impact, from individual recovery to strengthening family resilience. We will continue to improve this step with innovation and cross-sector collaboration,” explained Dr. Amrita.

The Prabowo-Gibran administration also encourages capacity building of IBM officers through intensive training and strengthening cooperation with local governments, NGOs, and the private sector. With these strategic steps, Indonesia is moving closer to the goal of creating a drug-free society.

The government affirms its seriousness in combating drug abuse by deploying all its strength and resources. This step is not only part of the national strategic policy, but also a moral commitment to protect the future of the nation. Through a comprehensive approach, synergy between institutions, and firm action in the field, the government shows that the war on drugs is a top priority that cannot be negotiated.

Full support from the community is needed to create a healthy, intelligent, and competitive next generation. This total war against drugs is real evidence that Indonesia will not give up in protecting the future of its nation. [*]
