Government Invites Private Sector Collaboration to Eradicate Online Gambling

Jakarta – The government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) invites digital companies to work together to eradicate online gambling activities that are increasingly rampant in Indonesia. Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, called for the active role of GoTo Group in content moderation and digital literacy campaigns.

“GoTo, which houses platforms such as TikTok and Tokopedia, needs to take concrete steps to moderate content, including taking down content related to online gambling. This is important to create a safe and clean digital ecosystem free from illegal activities,” said Meutya

The Minister of Communication and Digital emphasized that the government cannot work alone in eradicating online gambling. Collaboration with various parties, including the private sector, is needed to create a healthy digital environment. In addition to content moderation, digital literacy is considered important so that the public is more aware of the dangers of online gambling.

“We also encourage GoTo to improve digital literacy through an anti-online gambling campaign that can reach more people. This education will help prevent people, especially young people, from getting involved in this illegal activity,” he added.

GoTo Group CEO Patrick Walujo welcomed the government’s invitation. He stated GoTo’s commitment to support efforts to eradicate online gambling with various initiatives, including increasing content moderation across all platforms under the company’s auspices.

“GoTo is committed to taking real steps. In 2025, we will continue the Anti-Online Gambling Campaign with roadshows in 10 major cities in Indonesia, such as Aceh, Medan, Yogyakarta, and Papua. This campaign aims to provide education about the dangers of online gambling while helping victims recover,” said Patrick.

In addition, Patrick emphasized that content moderation will be strengthened, including on TikTok and Tokopedia, to ensure there is no room for illegal activities on the platforms.

“We believe that collaboration with the government is the key to success in creating a better digital ecosystem,” concluded Patrick.

The government hopes that synergy with digital companies such as GoTo can accelerate efforts to eradicate online gambling, while also building public awareness to stay away from illegal practices in cyberspace.
