Jakarta – Online gambling has become a serious concern for the government because it is considered to be damaging the morals and future of Indonesia’s young generation. In order to eradicate this threat, the government continues to engage the community to play an active role in efforts to create a healthy environment free from the dangers of online gambling.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, emphasized that the campaign against online gambling is a top priority in this digital era. He reminded that the impact of online gambling is not only financial, but can also destroy the future of the younger generation. “Online gambling is not only financially detrimental, but also threatens the future of the younger generation,” said Dito, Thursday (12/26/2024). He stated that the government is committed to continuing to improve education to the public regarding the dangers of online gambling, especially for young people.
Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, said that cross-sector collaboration is very important in facing this challenge. According to her, the government will expand the reach of the digital awareness campaign by involving various parties. “Komdigi and Kemenpora will expand the anti-online gambling campaign to create a young generation that is digitally aware, free from online gambling, and achieves. This collaboration involves ministries, communities, and inspirational figures,” explained Meutya.
The chairman of the Indonesian Muslim Student Action Union (KAMMI), Iskandar Zulkarnain, also expressed his concerns about the social impact of the rampant online gambling. He highlighted that this habit is starting to take root among students. “We as young people are certainly worried about the increasing prevalence of online gambling. This is what I fear, it has become a habit among young people, even school children,” said Iskandar.
Iskandar also appreciated the steps taken by the government and the National Police in eradicating online gambling, which he considered a positive step that needed to be supported by all parties. “That is a positive thing that we must support. As young people, of course we must also take a role,” he added.
Through synergy between the government, society, and young figures, it is hoped that the next generation of the nation can avoid the negative impacts of online gambling and be able to carve out proud achievements. The government is optimistic that this step will create a brighter future for Indonesia.
