Jakarta – The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemenkomdigi) has again demonstrated its commitment to eradicating online gambling (judol) by taking firm steps against famous celebrity Instagram accounts that have been proven to be affiliated with the promotion of these illegal activities.
This action was taken as part of an effort to protect the public, especially the younger generation, from the dangers posed by online gambling which is increasingly rampant in the digital space.
Kemkomdigi blocked three major celebrity accounts that were actively involved in online gambling promotions. The accounts are @ nanda.feby06 with 428 thousand followers, @ nagitaovely with 357 thousand followers, and @ sayaafun with 762 thousand followers. The three of them used their large number of followers to attract more people and promote online gambling sites.
Acting Director General of Public Communication and Media (Dirjen KPM), Kemkomdigi, Molly Prabawaty, emphasized that there is no tolerance for anyone who uses their popularity to spread illegal practices such as online gambling.
“This is a serious threat to society, especially the younger generation,” said Molly.
Then, Kemkomdigi’s steps to eradicate online gambling are not limited to blocking celebrity accounts. In the period from 1 to 30 December 2024, Kemkomdigi has succeeded in taking action against 221,116 online gambling content, accounts, and sites. More broadly, from 20 October to 30 December 2024, Kemkomdigi has succeeded in taking down more than 658,889 online gambling-related content.
