President Prabowo’s Government Affirms All Online Gambling Perpetrators Will Be Prosecuted According to Law

Jakarta  – President Prabowo Subianto’s government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating online gambling without discrimination.

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menkopolkam), Budi Gunawan, stated that all parties involved in this practice, including officials and officers who protect the network, will be processed according to the law.

“There is no tolerance, and we believe that because it is the President’s order that everything will be processed,” said Budi Gunawan.

Budi Gunawan, who is familiarly called BG, revealed that the National Police are currently continuing to investigate the online gambling network to uncover the involvement of other parties.

He also emphasized that this investigation would proceed without intervention from any party.

Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dave Laksono, fully supports the government’s steps to eradicate online gambling.

According to him, this firm action is needed to protect society from negative impacts that damage the nation’s morals, social and economic well-being.

“Law enforcement must be transparent, fair, and touch the entire online gambling network. There must be no loopholes for anyone involved, including officials or officers who protect this practice,” Dave stressed.

He emphasized that the eradication of online gambling must be carried out comprehensively, including cutting off supporting infrastructure such as digital payment systems that are often used in this illegal activity.

“Parliament will ensure that this process is transparent and accountable. If there are loopholes, we are ready to support the government with stricter regulations,” he added.

Most recently, the Minister of Cooperatives, Budi Arie Setiadi was questioned as a witness in an online gambling case involving employees of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi). The questioning was conducted by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police in South Jakarta.

Responding to this, the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, emphasized that Komdigi has completely handed over the online gambling case to law enforcement officers.

Meutya Hafid stated that the legal process is the authority of the authorities, not the business of her ministry.

“That’s a legal process, we are not law enforcers. Please process it by law enforcers,” he said in Jakarta.

The government under President Prabowo’s leadership is fully committed to taking firm action against all forms of online gambling practices in order to maintain the nation’s morality and protect society from its negative impacts. [*]
