Jakarta – The government continues to show a firm commitment to eradicating online gambling which has disturbed the public.
As of December 17, 2024, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has successfully prosecuted 5.4 million gambling content, including affiliated sites and social media accounts.
Acting Director General of Public Communication and Media of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Molly Prabawati, explained that active steps are being taken continuously.
“In the period from 1–17 December 2024 alone, we have taken action against 122,699 online gambling content, accounts, and sites through public complaints, institutional reports, and active cyber patrols,” said Molly.
Over the past two months, from October 20 to December 17, 2024, Kemkomdigi has blocked 560,472 online gambling content.
Molly detailed that the blocking covered 516,353 sites and IPs, 23,124 contents on the Meta platform, 12,728 on file sharing services, 4,963 on Google or YouTube, 2,849 on the X platform, 300 accounts on Telegram, and 153 accounts on TikTok.
Not only that, Komdigi has also taken firm steps against social media accounts with large followers, such as @prabusports.ofc, @asupan.goyang, and the account related to Anastasya Khosasih which has more than 300 thousand followers.
“These accounts were used for online gambling promotions and affiliations. Strict steps were taken to protect the public from its negative impacts,” said Molly.
Kemkomdigi also reminded the public of the recruitment mode of account collectors used by online gambling syndicates.
“These account collectors disguise judol transactions, even potentially used for money laundering or other illegal transactions,” said Molly.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives for Public Welfare, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, appreciated the role of the community in combating online gambling.
“The dangers of this fraud can no longer be covered up, everyone knows how damaged our financial system is,” he stressed.
Cucun highlighted that West Java is the region with the largest number of online gambling perpetrators based on Kemkomdigi’s digital analysis.
“Therefore, we from parliament are present with OJK to socialize reporting steps for people who are victims,” he explained.
He stressed the importance of collaboration between the government, parliament and society to eradicate online gambling in order to maintain financial stability and protect the younger generation. [*]
