JAKARTA – The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) together with the National Police have been actively conducting cyber patrols and deleting judol accounts. However, it is still necessary to anticipate judol advertisements that often target the public. Many judol modes are scattered through applications and deceive the public.
KPM Komdigi Media Director, Nursodik Gunarjo, revealed the perpetrator’s modus operandi, which often deceives victims through friends, family, or online advertisements.
“There are five phases that victims usually go through, starting from registration until they finally realize and want to get out of the addiction,” he explained.
He added that most victims were trapped because of economic pressures or simply to fill their free time.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Multimedia Bureau of the Public Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police, Brigadier General Pol. Gatot Repli Handoko, emphasized that his party would impose strict sanctions on anyone involved, including bank officials, ASN, and officers. This step is accompanied by the confiscation of assets and blocking of portals related to judol.
“President Prabowo has instructed the complete eradication of judol,” he said.
However, eradicating judol in Indonesia faces major challenges. Low digital literacy among the public makes judol advertisements easy to reach users. With 212.9 million internet users in Indonesia, adequate digital literacy is an urgent need to prevent the public from being exposed.
Preventive policies that are educational and persuasive are considered important. Head of the UMJ Mikom Study Program, Dr. Tria Patrianti, emphasized the need for a strategic communicative approach so that people are not tempted to try judol.
“Communication must be the glue to overcome this problem because no matter how good the policy is, it needs to be supported by good communication,” he said.
On the other hand, international cooperation is needed to catch the dealers operating from abroad, such as Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines. With such comprehensive efforts, Judol practices can be completely eradicated.
