Maintaining Stability During the Leadership Transition from President Jokowi to Prabowo-Gibran

By Miranda Yanuar

The transition of power from President Joko Widodo to the elected President Prabowo Subianto marks an important moment for the Indonesian nation, which requires serious attention from various parties. This transition is not merely a change of leadership, but also plays a crucial role in maintaining the continuity of national development that has been initiated during the two terms of President Jokowi’s administration. Therefore, political stability and security are key factors that must be maintained to ensure that this process runs smoothly and without disruption.

At the central government level, President Joko Widodo emphasized the importance of maintaining national stability during the transition period. For this reason, security forces, such as the military and police, as well as the National Intelligence Agency (BIN), have a significant responsibility in ensuring that the country’s conditions remain safe and under control. Their role is very vital, especially in facing various potential disruptions that may arise during the transition period. The central government has also given clear directions to ensure that the situation remains conducive, and any form of disruption that could hinder the transition process must be anticipated and addressed firmly.

At the regional level, the Association of Provincial Governments of Indonesia (APPSI) is also playing an active role in supporting the smooth transition. In this regard, the Chairman of the Association of Provincial Governments of Indonesia (APPSI), Al Haris, stated

APPSI emphasizes the importance of maintaining conducive conditions in every region, especially in the lead-up to the upcoming simultaneous regional elections in 2024. Not only that, local governments have a significant responsibility to ensure that the transition process is not disrupted by political or social upheaval in their respective areas. They also need to cooperate with the central government to maintain unity and stability throughout the country.

In addition to the government, support also comes from labor unions. The Deputy Chairman of KSPSI under the leadership of Yorrys Raweyai, Arnod Sihite, hopes that the transition of national leadership to the elected President Prabowo Subianto will take place safely and peacefully. The labor union recognizes that political stability is crucial for maintaining peace and security, so that various development agendas impacting the welfare of workers and the general public can continue to progress smoothly. In a stable political situation, the relationship between the government, society, and the business world can be well-maintained, ultimately benefiting all the people of Indonesia.

The importance of maintaining this stability is closely related to the continuity of national development. During his presidency, Joko Widodo has laid a strong foundation for infrastructure development and economic improvement. Therefore, the transition period should be seen as an opportunity to continue the projects that have been planned, while also preparing new steps under the leadership of the elected President Prabowo Subianto. The sustainability of this development is very important to prevent any stagnation or delays in the implementation of the programs that have already been planned.

Unity and cooperation among political elites is also a key factor. When political leaders unite and are able to maintain stable relationships among themselves, the risks of conflict or social disruption can be minimized. Thus, the political atmosphere will be calmer and more conducive, allowing the public to experience certainty and tranquility in facing changes in leadership.

In addition to the roles of the central government, regional authorities, and security institutions, the community also plays an important role in maintaining a conducive situation during the transition of power from President Joko Widodo to the elected President Prabowo Subianto. As a key component in national life and governance, society has a significant responsibility to contribute to creating a safe and peaceful atmosphere amidst leadership changes.

In a transition period fraught with uncertainty, active community participation is essential to maintain stability. The community is expected to demonstrate political maturity by not easily being provoked by issues that can divide unity. In this fast-paced information era, various hoaxes and provocations frequently emerge, especially on social media. Therefore, it is important for the public to be more discerning in receiving and disseminating information by ensuring the truth of the sources they obtain. The responsible use of social media can be one way to prevent the spread of news that has the potential to disrupt national stability.

In addition, the community also needs to avoid actions that could trigger conflict, both at the local and national levels. Harmony among fellow citizens, both in small communities like residential areas and in interactions in broader public spaces, needs to be continuously maintained. The community can play its role by creating constructive dialogues and supporting the process of a peaceful transition. Respecting differences in political choices and maintaining healthy communication among supporters of various parties is one of the keys to ensuring that this transition is not marked by social tension.

In the end, the success of this government transition greatly depends on the cooperation of all parties, both at the central and regional levels, as well as the general public. With a shared commitment to maintaining stability, security, and the continuity of national development, Indonesia can navigate this transitional period safely and peacefully. The transition process from President Joko Widodo to elected President Prabowo Subianto is expected to mark the beginning of a new chapter that will lead Indonesia towards greater progress, while still maintaining the political and social stability that has been established.
