Office Buildings in IKN Ready for Use

Jakarta – The Prabowo-Gibran government is currently focusing on accelerating the sustainability of the IKN development. Various state and public buildings and facilities are still under construction to date. In its development, the IKN office building will soon be ready for use.

Head of the Indonesian Capital Authority (OIKN), Basuki Hadimuljono said that all office and residential buildings in the Indonesian Capital (IKN), East Kalimantan, will be ready for use in December 2024.

“So, the offices must be ready this December and God willing, everything will be ready,” said Basuki.
Basuki explained that the coordinating ministry office complex will consist of 16 towers, while the residential area will have 47 towers.

To support the ecosystem of life in IKN, various supporting facilities have also been prepared. These facilities include restaurants, cafes, laundry services, and barbershops to meet the daily needs of residents.

In terms of development, the development of the IKN does not only focus on physical infrastructure, but also pays attention to non-physical aspects. One example is the arrangement of the Sepaku area which requires a strong social engineering approach to accommodate the local community.
Basuki also stated the technical challenges in the development of the IKN, especially related to soil conditions. Several areas have clay shale soil with low bearing capacity that requires special handling. To overcome this, OIKN converted these areas into water resource conservation areas.

“We built 60 reservoirs there. From riparian, from run-off water. So we really look at the condition of the land and the condition of water resource conservation,” explained Basuki.

The complex development of the IKN requires the involvement of various parties, including the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII).

Basuki emphasized the importance of PII’s role in completing various aspects of development, both physical and non-physical, to realize a new capital city that is livable and sustainable.

Previously, the Head of the IKN Infrastructure Development Implementation Task Force who is also the Acting Deputy for Facilities and Infrastructure of the IKN Authority, Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga said that the Coordinating Ministry (Kemenko) Office buildings in the Core Area of the Government Center (KIPP) of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) have been served with drinking water sourced from the Sepaku Water Treatment Plant (IPA) 300 liters per second. Regarding the electricity needs of the Kemenko Office Buildings 1, 3, and 4 have also been served (energized) which is sourced from the PLN Main Substation.

“Meanwhile, the Coordinating Ministry Office Building 2 still uses construction electricity sourced from the existing network (aerial cables),” said Danis.

Specifically in the Coordinating Ministry Office Building 1, there are already a number of tenants or retail tenants such as coffee shops, minimarkets, and health services.

The designation and division of the Coordinating Ministry office buildings are as follows: Coordinating Ministry Building 1 for the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Marves); Coordinating Ministry Building 2 for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs; Coordinating Ministry Building 3 for the Coordinating Ministry for Politics, Law, and Human Rights (Polhukam); and Coordinating Ministry Building 4 for the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (PMK).[*]
